The Keeper of the Boxes: A Father’s Promise, A Family’s Legacy (Part Two)

What began as one mother’s act of love became a promise kept—and a legacy passed on.

When our mom Marsha realized she wouldn’t live to see the most meaningful moments in our lives—birthdays, graduations, weddings, and the birth of her grandchildren—she found a way to be there anyway. Before her passing on September 12, 1994, she wrapped sacred boxes in signature paper, labeled them for future milestones, and entrusted her husband with one final request: deliver each one, at just the right time.

In this unforgettable follow-up to our Father's Day conversation, we sit down with the man who became the Keeper of the Boxes—our dad. For over a decade, he held onto these gifts and handwritten notes, carrying them from house to house and moment to moment until it was time for each one to be delivered and opened.

This episode is about more than just boxes. It’s about a promise fulfilled, a father’s quiet devotion, and the way love can stretch across time and loss to remain present. From pearl necklaces to silver rattles to heartfelt notes filled with her presence and Spirit, every box told a story. And today, we’re sharing the larger story with you.

Whether you're navigating your own grief, reflecting on the legacies left behind by loved ones, or simply looking for a reason to believe in the enduring power of presence, this conversation is one you’ll never forget.

“It was never a burden. It was a labor of love.”

🎙️ In this episode, we reflect on:

  • The powerful story of The Boxes—our mother’s last gift and our dad’s quiet promise

  • Why legacy is about presence, not just memories or pictures in the bottom of a drawer

  • How one man fulfilled a decade-long promise across milestones and moves

  • The emotional weight of his promise and delivering love across time

  • What it meant, and what it still means, to be the Keeper of the Boxes

  • A reflection on how grief, when met with intention, becomes connection
