Sometimes the people who change our lives are the ones we never expected to meet.
What begins as a six-month volunteer trip to Tanzania becomes something neither Tony Matteroli nor Angel Mollel could have imagined—a lifelong bond built on trust, education, perseverance, and a shared belief that every child deserves the opportunity to discover what's possible.
In Part One of this special two-part series, Tony and Angel invite us into the remarkable beginning of their story.
Tony shares how an unexpected layoff led him halfway around the world to volunteer in a small school near a Maasai village in Northern Tanzania. There, he met a young girl whose quiet determination and love of learning immediately stood out.
Angel's story begins long before that meeting.
Growing up with sixteen siblings, two mothers, and one father, she experienced both the beauty and the challenges of village life. While many girls faced expectations of early marriage, Angel's father believed education could create a different future for his daughters—a decision that would ultimately change generations.
